Call for sites for South Worcestershire local plan
Work is now under way on a fresh development framework, set to replace the SWDPR adopted this year with a plan to 2049.
A call for sites has now been issued by Malvern Hills District, Worcester City and Wychavon District Councils as work begins on the local plan, triggered by a rise in housing need as part of the government’s updated NPPF and standard calculations.
The existing local development framework, known as the South Worcestershire Development Plan Review, was adopted in March, and identifies an annual housing requirement of 1,178 across South Worcestershire.
Cllr Pat Agar, Chair of the South Worcestershire Local Plan Joint Advisory Panel overseeing preparation of the new plan, said: “This is a very early information-gathering exercise which will help us understand what land may be available and start building the evidence needed to plan for future development in the right places.
“There will be plenty of opportunities for residents and communities to get involved and have their say once work on the new plan formally begins, and I hope people will take those opportunities to help shape the future of South Worcestershire.”
A formal scoping consultation will take place in September, with the first stages of public consultation expected to be launched in October.
Under the expedited government timetable for developing planning frameworks, the new local plan could be in place as early as April, 2029.
Sites can be submitted via the South Worcestershire Local Plan digital engagement hub website.
