Cameron Homes lodges plans for £22m Atherstone scheme
Staffordshire housebuilder Cameron has submitted plans with North Warwickshire for the second phase of a residential development at Wood End.
If approved, the proposals will see 65 houses built on nine acres of former farmland off Boulters Lane, around three miles from the centre of Atherstone.
Outline plans for 145 homes at the site were turned down by North Warwickshire Council in 2019 – but the authority cannot currently demonstrate a five-year land supply.
The authority’s most recent position, published in response to a planning appeal held during December last year, puts the council’s housing land supply at between 1.5 and 2.2 years.
The first phase of the scheme, a development of 26 homes on a neighbouring plot, was approved in 2022 and has subsequently been completed.
Cameron Homes is targeting a 2027 start date for the development, subject to planning approval.
“There is substantial unmet demand for new homes across North Warwickshire,” said Emily Christie, the firm’s head of planning.
“With our Oak View scheme completing two years ago, our brand is already well established here. But, with only 26 houses in that first phase, we have a growing waiting list of families who missed out.
“We will continue to work with council officers, councillors and stakeholders as this planning application is considered.”
White Ridge Architecture have provided designs for the scheme, with Evolve acting as the planning consultant.
The project team includes Pegasus Group, Ridge and Partners LLP, NoiseAssess, Focus Envionmental, Land Research Associates, Georisk Management, Link Engineering, and AES Sustainability.
The statutory consultation period for the application ends on 1 October.
