Charterpoint starts work on Edwalton store

Derby construction firm Davlyn has now moved onto site, as work to build a 4,300 sq ft Sainsbury’s Local in Nottingham gets under way.

Developer Charterpoint received detailed planning permission for the Rose Way store in 2023, part of a wider scheme for Edwalton which also includes a 77-home retirement complex being built by Vistry Group for not-for-profit housing provider Anchor.

The site is less than a mile from a planned urban extension project at Tollerton, which earlier this week saw developer Vistry acquire a 280-acre plot for a 1,600-home development, set to be built in conjunction with the National Housing Bank.

The store is expected to open before the end of the year.

Rushcliffe Borough Council Edwalton ward councillor, Hetvi Parekh, said the store was a “welcome addition” for Edwalton.

“It will make everyday shopping more convenient for residents and support the local economy, and we look forward to the positive impact it will bring,” she said.

The development is being funded by The Drummond Trust, which is the second funding collaboration with Charterpoint following the success last year of its neighbourhood centre development at the award winning New Lubbesthorpe, near Leicester.

The addition of a high-quality convenience store like Sainsbury’s adds another positive dimension to the scheme, which will significantly benefit the local community.”
