Contractor appointed for £100m Aston Villa scheme
Kingscote Construction has been appointed to the redevelopment of the North Stand at Villa Park, according to accounts filed by parent group Morrisroe this week.
The development will help to extend the stadium’s capacity to more than 50,000, as well as creating ‘elite’ first team changing and medical facilities, as Birmingham gets ready to host a major international football tournament in 2028.
Contractors are now on site at the stadium, with the work planned to take around a year.
The project will be Kingscote’s first major stadium project – although parent group Morrisroe delivered extensive works on the new Tottenham Hotpsur stadium, including the huge concrete bowl which forms the base of the stadium’s superstructure.
The firm was also responsible for the 26-storey office complex at 103 Colmore Row in the city.
Last month, the club announced that Villa Park would operate at reduced capacity next season, as part of plans to accelerate the £100m redevelopment scheme.
Planning permission for the redevelopment of the North Stand, and a smaller scheme of seating additions in the corners of the stadium, was granted by Birmingham City Council last year.
Speaking earlier this year, Roberto Olabe, Aston Villa’s president of football operations, said: “The redevelopment of the North Stand will deliver vital improvements to our football infrastructure, providing modern facilities that support player performance, medical care and preparation.
“This project reflects our ambition to ensure that Aston Villa has elite-level facilities that match our sporting objectives.”

All good and that , however the traffic and headache caused in the area.
The result of pot holes.
People running red lights.
People blocking on coming cars when running. Red lights.
The community not being able to leave when a game is on.
Having to leave 20mins before an appointment due to traffic.

Regarding the negative comments here, I’m pretty sure that no current residents moved into the area prior to Villa Park being created in 1897, therefore should be aware that it will be busy on matchdays. And residents should be proud that they have European champions as neighbours!
