Development blueprint for Wolverhampton approved
The ‘Our Future City Centre Plan’ identifies 33 potential development sites across 10 regeneration areas, which could deliver 6,750 new homes and create a more resilient city centre.
The blueprint for opportunities coming forward includes:
- Cultural assets in Queen Square and St Peter’s
- Residential growth areas at Darlington, St George’s, Canalside, Chapel Ash and Graiseley
- Education and visitor economy locations at the Interchange, Springfield and Molineux.
Cllr Stephen Simkins, City of Wolverhampton Council Leader, said: “We want the city centre to be a thriving urban hub and destination of choice that attracts investment, supports businesses, celebrates creativity, supports enterprise, and enhances quality of life for all who live, work, study and visit here.”
There will be a mix of new-build plans to bring forward homes, employment space, public realm improvements and active travel connections, as well as reusing vacant buildings.
The council hopes to build on progress that has been made at the City Learning Quarter, Canalside South and Smithgate.
