Further 100 homes planned for ‘flagship’ Burton scheme
More than 100 homes are set to be built at one of the country’s earliest urban extension projects in Staffordshire, after new proposals were recommended for approval by planning officers.
Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has applied for reserved-matters permission to build 103 houses at Branston Locks, a 400-acre site which will eventually provide a 2,500 home extension to the south-west of Burton upon Trent.
A decision on the application will be taken by East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning committee on 25 November.
The wider Branston Locks scheme received outline approval in 2015, for a scheme which also includes 1m sq ft of employment space, a local centre with retail units, a residential care home, and a primary school.
The proposals form part of the sixth phase of residential development on the site, built on a former farmstead near Branston and considered one of the earliest named “urban extension” schemes in the country.
Around 8% of the development has been allocated as affordable housing.
