Green light for demolition of former Derby showroom
The site of a former car dealership on the outskirts of the city centre will be completely redeveloped, after plans to demolish a two-storey building were given the go-ahead.
Applicant Urban Asset Management wants to demolish two buildings at Pendragon House, opposite Derbyshire County Cricket Club on Sir Frank Whittle Road, to make way for a “comprehensive redevelopment” of the site – with plans set to be brought forward separately.
The 0.75-acre site is the former home of Stratstone Derby’s Mini dealership, which relocated to larger premises in 2022, and a car leasing firm.
“The proposals seek to demolish the full extent of existing buildings on the site, to make way for the comprehensive redevelopment of the site, which will be subject to separate planning applications,” said a planning statement prepared on behalf of the applicants by Birmingham-based consultancy Simply Planning.
“The buildings proposed for demolition were formerly occupied by National Fleet Solutions, a vehicle sales and maintenance business. However, there are wider plans for the redevelopment of the site, in two distinct parcels. The proposals have recently been subject to pre-application discussions with the Local Planning Authority.”
Manchester-based Austin Wilkinson Demolition supplied a method statement for the work, while Arbtech Consulting provided ecology services.
The demolition was approved as permitted development on 5 November.
