Hill checks in at Sphere Group

Birmingham residential developer Sphere Group has strengthened its senior team with the appointment of former Commonwealth Games project manager Chris Hill as project director, as it pushes ahead with a growing pipeline of city-centre schemes.

Hill joins at a key moment for the company, with construction progressing at Edition Birmingham and early plans emerging for a major mixed-use scheme within Birmingham’s Central Heart regeneration area on behalf of Legal & General.

The appointment also marks a return to Birmingham for Hill after several years in Australia, where he worked with project management and advisory firm TSA Riley as regional property lead. During that time he also represented venue developer Oak View Group on a number of arena projects.

Hill brings a broad mix of regeneration, delivery and major events experience to Sphere, having previously served as managing director of a consultancy business, project manager for Birmingham’s successful Commonwealth Games bid and project director for arena schemes at the NEC Group.

The move comes as Sphere continues to expand its presence in Birmingham’s residential market, with the developer increasingly positioning itself around complex mixed-use and city-centre regeneration opportunities tied to the city’s wider growth agenda.

Sphere chief executive officer, Alex Neale, said Hill was a “wonderful talent”, who was joining the business at an exciting moment.

“With Edition coming out of the ground, our development proposals for Cherry Street coming down the line and other irons in the fire, Chris will be a huge asset to the team with his experience and specialist skills,” he said.
