L&G gets green light to demolish industrial estate
Plans to knock down 17 ‘outdated’ industrial units on a north Birmingham trade park have been given the all clear by the city council’s planning department this week.
The 250,000 sq ft site is set to form phase two of the Sentinel Logistics Park in Castle Vale, sandwiched between the busy A47 Fort Parkway and a main railway line near Fort Dunlop. Phase one of the scheme was approved by Birmingham City Council’s planning department in 2023, with five new logistics units now built or under construction on parts of the former Fort Industrial Park.
The remainder of the site is currently home to several businesses, including GSF Car Parts, but application documents lodged with the city council say they expect the park to be fully emptied by November, when demolition is scheduled to begin.
The application, lodged by Legal & General Property Partners Industrial Fund earlier this month, said the existing steel-framed buildings ‘do not meet modern occupier requirements’.
Demolition work is expected to begin later this year, with a target date for completion set for May, 2027.
Documents and plans relating to the application can be found on the Birmingham City Council planning portal under reference: 2026/01526/PA
