More than 2,000 homes to be built in Worcester ‘super village’
House builder Vistry says two huge land deals will see thousands of homes built across two Midlands sites over the next ten years – including the proposed new Hopfields village in south Worcester.
The Gloucester-based firm has completed deals at Hopfields and Bury St Edmunds which it says will pave the way for over 3,500 homes to be built across the two sites.
Outline planning permission for the Worcester scheme, on a 50-acre plot between St Peter’s and Kempsey, was granted in 2022. The phased development will see 2,204 homes built alongside a new hotel, primary school and sports hub – part of an urban extension to the south of the city.
The first reserved matters application for a spine road, set to link the first phase of the scheme with the A38, was brought forward last month.
Meanwhile the Bury St Edmunds site will see 1,375 new homes built to the north-east of the town, alongside a new primary school, commercial space, a local centre, and a country park, in what Vistry says is one of the largest urban extensions in the region.
“Large sites such as these demonstrate our long-term commitment to building more mixed-tenure homes at scale, working with our partners, and helping to meet the acute shortage of affordable homes across the country,” said James Warrington, executive chair (North, South Midlands and East division) at Vistry.
“Thanks to the unique strengths of Vistry, we can make use of our retail brands Bovis Homes, Countryside and Linden Homes as well as taking advantage of the timber frame manufacturing capabilities of Vistry Works.
“Vistry would like to extend its thanks to Savills for its work on the Bury St Edmunds contracts, and Fisher German, Wellbeck Land and Arc Chartered Surveyors for their unwavering support on the land purchase at Hopfields.”
