Police plan to demolish former Stoke DIY store
Plans to knock down a 1960’s-era industrial unit to provide more car parking for officers at Longton Police Station have been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent city council.
Staffordshire Police agreed to buy Fitzgerald House in Sutherland Road in 2023, as part of plans to upgrade facilities in Longton, and a full scale refurbishment of the existing building was completed in August last year, costing around £3m.
Fitzgerald House was previously used as a DIY store, before becoming a branch of Bromborough Paints in 2018. The store closed in 2021, before it was snapped up by Staffordshire Police in April, 2023.

Land registry data shows the building changed hands for £625,000.
The force currently rents car parking for staff elsewhere in Longton, with a decision notice published in 2023 pointing to an increase in officer numbers creating “significant demand” for secure vehicle parking.
Birmingham-based City Demolition have been appointed as the demolition contractor for the scheme.
