Sainsbury’s signs up at Harborough development

A national retailer has been secured for one of Market Harborough’s newest housing developments, after commercial property consultancy Wells McFarlane agreed a long-term lease for one of three retail units on the scheme.

The supermarket will occupy a 4,458 sq ft unit at the Davidsons at Little Bowden scheme, off Kettering Road, where the Leicestershire housebuilder is currently building a residential neighbourhood on the eastern edge of Market Harborough.

The deal represents the second letting Wells McFarlane has completed for Sainsbury’s in the town, following the opening of its store at Wellington Place at the end of 2025.

“This is one of three, brand new commercial units Davidsons is building at Little Bowden so confirming such a well-known brand as the anchor tenant not only sets a strong foundation but ensures this will become a real focal point,” said Andrew McFarlane Holt, director, Wells McFarlane.

“Sainsbury’s has been well-received by local residents at Wellington Place so we are confident the retailer will enjoy similar success on this development.”

Alongside the 15-year lease to Sainsbury’s, the company is currently negotiating a long-term lease for the neighbouring 1,424 sq ft unit to be occupied by a café chain, leaving just one of a trio of units still available on the development.

“Well-positioned, energy efficient retail units like these are in high demand and with this significant long-term letting now confirmed, we expect the final available premises to let quickly,” added McFarlane Holt.

Wells McFarlane has been retained by Davidsons for property management.
