Thumbs up for Kirkby in Ashfield affordable scheme
A former Nottinghamshire industrial storage site will become a three-storey apartment block for over 55’s, after plans were approved by councillors in Ashfield.
The 100% affordable scheme, put forward by Langcroft Developments, will see 50 apartments built on a two-and-a-half acre site on Pond Street in Kirkby in Ashfield.
The development, which has been backed by remediation funding from the Homes England towns fund, includes communal spaces, landscaping and parking for 25 cars.
According to the developer, the proposals have been designed to complement the next-door North Kirkby Gateway project, a council-backed regeneration plan which would see a mix of apartments and shops built on the site of a former factory shop on Ellis Street.
In a report to Ashfield District Council’s planning committee, planning officers said the scheme would make a “positive contribution” to the street scene in a prominent town centre location, adding that the development would help to enhance the “legibility” of the area.
The application was approved at Ashfield’s July planning committee, and work is expected to begin on site in March next year.
CPMG Architects provided designs for the scheme, with planning support provided by STAT Planning. The project team includes NOVA Accoustics, Rachel Hacking Ecology, BSH Remediation, Evolve, Farrow Walsh, Roberts Highway Consultants and Tree Solutions.
