Hill Group appoints Milligan to City Centre South
London-based developer and regeneration specialist Milligan has been appointed to shape the commercial offer at Coventry’s landmark £450m rebuilding project.
Work is now well underway at the City Centre South, a decades-in-the-making scheme described as the largest reshaping of Coventry since the second World War.
Once complete, the development will provide up to 1,575 new homes, a mix of studio to three-bedroom apartments, with a first phase set to deliver 991 of these homes, alongside space for shops, hospitality and businesses, now under construction.
Milligan says it will bring extensive experience in unlocking the potential of complex city centre regeneration projects across the UK, along with a proven track record in places that are commercially successful, socially engaging and “rooted in local character”.
Founded in 2002, Milligan has been involved in the repositioning of major destinations including Camden Lock Market, Birmingham’s Mailbox and Liverpool’s Metquarter, and is increasingly focused on town centre regeneration partnerships across the UK.
The firm says it plans to create a commercial offer that reflects Coventry’s “rich heritage and vibrant mix of regional independents”, while responding to evolving consumer needs and future-facing urban trends.
Stuart Harris, chief executive at Milligan, said its approach to curating uses, operators and experiences aims to integrate with Hill’s vision for delivering high-quality town centre living, complemented by a commercial offer which actively supports a vibrant, liveable and sustainable neighbourhood.
“Coventry is a city with an incredibly rich story to tell, from its heritage and creativity to its resilience and reinvention,” he said.
“That story is fundamental to shaping a successful commercial strategy for City Centre South. We are thrilled to be working with Hill, alongside Coventry City Council on such a bold and ambitious regeneration.”
Andy Hill OBE, Founder and Group Chief Executive of The Hill Group, added: “City Centre South is one of the most significant regeneration projects currently being delivered in the UK and represents a major long-term investment in the future of Coventry. Bringing forward the right commercial offer is critical to creating a truly successful mixed-use destination, one that complements the city centre, supports local businesses and creates a vibrant place for people to live, work and spend time.
“Milligan brings exceptional expertise in curating high-performing town and city centre destinations, and their appointment marks another important step forward as we move from demolition into delivery. We look forward to working together with Milligan and Coventry City Council to realise our shared vision for City Centre South.”
