Owl Group confirms ‘largest ever’ land purchase

Tamworth-based housebuilder Owl has snapped up a site on the Staffordshire border for an undisclosed sum, set to become almost 200 homes.

The decade-old firm says the 20.5-acre Madeley plot is the largest it’s ever purchased, with detailed plans already submitted for a mixed-tenure, 188-home development.

The final scheme is set to include 29 social rent, 26 shared ownership and 37 affordable homes.

“This acquisition marks a major milestone in Owl’s journey and an important step forward in how we continue to grow and diversify across the Owl Group,” said Mike Kelly, Owl Homes’ managing director.

“Acquiring Madeley Grange supports our strategic growth ambitions, enhances our portfolio in Staffordshire, and enables us to provide high-quality homes across the region. Projects of this scale only succeed through strong partnerships and rigorous execution, and I’m proud of the professionalism and dedication shown by all involved.

“Not only is this site our largest acquisition to date but it also demonstrates the strength of our integrated approach and long-term pipeline across both open market and partnership-led housing. Its location perfectly aligns with our vision to bring high quality homes to semi-rural areas and villages, while still retaining close connections to towns and cities. “

Subject to planning, Owl Group says it expects to deliver the first homes  on the site by spring 2027.

Supporting the Owl Group on the purchase were Freeths (qlegal guidance) and Knights (planning).
