Vistry starts work at 160-home Chesterfield site

Spades are now in the ground at Mastin Moor, part of a joint venture with affordable housing provider Sage Homes.

A total of 163 houses are being built as part of a wider, 650-home masterplan for a 115-acre plot to the east of Bolsover Road, around five miles from the centre of Chesterfield.

The wider plan includes proposals for later living, a local centre, extensive new parkland and an extension to the existing community garden. The wider site is also home to the Construction Skills Hub operated by Chesterfield College.

Proposals for the former agricultural site, which is owned by the Chatsworth Estate and is being developed by Devonshire Property Group, were approved by Chesterfield council in 2022.

Vistry, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, was joined by Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, and representatives from Devonshire Property Group to celebrate the start of construction.

Dave Bradley, managing director of Vistry North Midlands, said starting work at Mastin Moor was a “proud moment for everyone involved.”

“We are delighted to be working with Sage Homes, Devonshire Property Group, Chesterfield Borough Council and local stakeholders to bring forward a scheme that will make a positive and lasting contribution to Mastin Moor and the wider Chesterfield area,” he said.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, added: “It’s great to see works starting on the next phase of this development. Not only will it provide much needed affordable homes but also it will contribute to ensuring our young people have opportunity to succeed in careers in the construction industry. This will be achieved by Vistry working closely with the Construction Skills Hub.

“The Hub, which has Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) National Skills Academy for Construction status, was established by Chesterfield Borough Council, in partnership with the Devonshire Group, and delivered by Chesterfield College and Derby University to ensure young people have the opportunity to gain experience and insight of modern methods of construction as well as supporting work experience placements and apprenticeships.
