Green light for 54-home Bilston housing plans

A former factory and several light industrial units will be demolished to make way for housing, after plans were approved by City of Wolverhampton Council this week.

Morro Partnerships lodged proposals to build 54 houses on two parcels of land north and south of Hatton Road in Bilston in 2024, part of a plot which had been allocated for housing in the Bilston Area Action Plan.

Adopted in 2014, the action plan set a minimum target of 2,740 houses to be built in Bilston by 2026.

“Overall, the proposal would represent a significant improvement to the appearance and character of the site, replacing an unattractive industrial area with a high-quality residential development,” said a report by the city council’s planning officers.

“The scheme would make efficient use of a housing allocation, provide affordable housing, support employment during the construction phase, and enhance the visual amenity of the area.”

Urbanissta provided planning consultancy for the application, while Walsall-based Geoff Perry Associates provided designs. The project team included PJA, Hepworth Acoustic, Elemental GI, and GreenAvon.

Plans and documents relating to the application can be found on Wolverhampton’s planning portal using reference: 24/00816/FUL
