The first phase of a huge industrial and logistics development was officially launched in Walsall this week, as work gets underway on the next stage of development at the 620,000 sq ft scheme.

Two units have now been completed at the former James Bridge Copper Works near Junction 10 of the M6, one of the the largest brownfield regeneration sites in the West Midlands, with the flagship 250,000 sq ft Unit A now ready for occupation, alongside a smaller, 18,000 sq ft Unit G.

A second phase of work has now begun, with construction on a further 101,341 sq ft across three units now under way.

The scheme has been led by Origin, a joint venture between developer HBD and Feldberg Capital, in partnership with Walsall Council, Homes England, the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Black Country LEP.

Vivienne Clements, Executive Director at HBD, said: “It’s fantastic to see the first phase of SPARK complete – it’s an excellent example of public private partnership done well, creating one of the best I&L schemes in the Midlands, just minutes from the M6 at the heart of the UK’s manufacturing and logistics economy and with the potential to create hundreds of new jobs.”

Jamie Acheson, Managing Director of Feldberg Capital, added: “The delivery of SPARK’s first phase underlines Origin’s strategy of investing in well-located, ESG-compliant assets with strong fundamentals. SPARK is a best-in-class I&L scheme that meets the evolving needs of occupiers while supporting long-term economic growth in the region.”
