Walsall bridge project on track for March finish
Road closures will be in place this week as the finishing touches are put on a new road bridge in Pelsall, Walsall Council says.
The scheme to build the new Yorks Bridge over the Wyrley and Essington Canal along Norton Road got underway in 2024, constructed parallel to a historic span built in the 19th century, and forming a key part of a wider improvement scheme.
As the project draws to a close, Walsall Council says Norton Road will close for five nights this week while surfacing works are carried out between Charles Crescent and Wyrley Lane – with work set to conclude on Saturday, 14 February.
The new 40m bridge has been built to the east of the existing bridge and has seen Norton Road re-aligned as part of the scheme. Once complete, the new bridge will provide two-way traffic bridge and a dedicated footway.
“We are nearing completion for this project and I want to thank residents and businesses for their patience while the works have been carried out,” said Cllr Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council
