More than 100 jobs lost as Nottingham’s Belfry Hotel closes down

Efforts to find a buyer for a stricken city hospitality firm have failed, according to administrators, who have confirmed the closure of the business this week.

The Nottingham Belfry Hotel & Spa, located on Mellors Way, fell into administration in early January, with efforts then focussed on trying to find a buyer for the four-star hotel.

But an update today confirmed that those efforts had been unsuccessful, with the business now closed and 106 employees made redundant.

A small number of staff have been retained for a short period to assist with the wind-down of operations, according to joint administrators, Ian Corfield and Anthony Simmons of FRP Advisory.

The business had experienced financial difficulties in recent months, reflecting ongoing trading pressures across the hospitality sector alongside rising operating costs, a statement from the administrators said.

Despite engaging with “a number of interested parties”, efforts to save the business floundered, and the hotel ceased trading on Tuesday, 10 February.

Anthony Simmons, director at FRP and joint administrator of Delta Nottingham Hotel Limited, said: “Despite best efforts to secure a sale, it has not been possible to find a buyer for the business and the decision has therefore been taken to close the hotel. Our focus now is on supporting affected employees and progressing the orderly wind-down of the business.”

There is no humanity in this country today
I was a member of the NottinghamBelfry along with many others and attended a class on Tuesday morning only to get home at lunchtime to a message about closure.
I noticed the administrators waited until the membership fees had gone out of the bank on February 2nd before announcing the closure
I hope this will be reimbursed as it was taken for services that were not supplied.
