Avison Young hires ex-JLL director
Jenny Hemstock has been appointed director in the property management division at Avison Young, following a career break since leaving JLL in June 2025.
Hemstock is the latest hire at AY’s Birmingham office since Emily Filer took over in March as regional head of Midlands and South West. Filer joined from Gowling WLG and also works in real estate management.
AY’s instructions include managing the public realm at Typhoo Wharf in Digbeth for Gooch Estate.
Guy Thompson, principal at Avison Young, said: “The addition of Emily and Jenny to our real estate management delivery team is central to our strategy of managing prestigious assets for our long-standing clients, as well as new clients that we are currently onboarding.”
Emily Filer, director and regional head of Midlands and South West, real estate management at Avison Young, added: “The Midlands and South West continue to see significant investment and transformation, creating exciting opportunities for owners, occupiers and investors alike. With strong momentum already behind the business and an impressive pipeline of new instructions, I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the region to drive further growth.”
Jenny Hemstock, director of real estate management at Avison Young, added: “This is an exciting time to be joining Avison Young. The business has a strong presence across the Midlands region and is trusted to manage some of the most high-profile and complex assets in the market.”
Nationally, Avison Young has been facing severe financial distress, but the business has recently taken aggressive steps to move from fighting for survival into a recovery phase. The company faced a cash crunch including frozen UK bank accounts due to an unpaid tax bill of £7.7m. The group announced a recapitalisation programme include debt for equity swap to recover.
The uncertainty coincided with several high-profile departures in Birmingham, including office agency stalwart Ian Stringer and Carl Potter, former regional managing director.
