Caddick hires Sykes to drive East Midlands growth

Caddick Construction has strengthened its Midlands leadership team with the appointment of former Bowmer + Kirkland director Paul Sykes as regional managing director for the East Midlands.

Sykes joins after more than 30 years with Bowmer + Kirkland, where he most recently led the contractor’s North West business following his promotion to Regional Director in 2021.

A Quantity Surveyor by trade, he previously oversaw major projects in Scotland worth £133m before joining the firm’s North West leadership team in 2014.

His arrival comes as Caddick looks to build on the momentum of its West Midlands operation, launched in 2023 under Regional Managing Director Ray O’Sullivan. The business has already secured a £1bn pipeline and a forward order book of £300m.

Sykes has delivered several landmark Midlands schemes during his career, including the £100m-plus St George’s Park National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent and Derby Arena velodrome at Pride Park.

“Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to work on high-profile projects while supporting regional business growth, and these experiences have shaped my approach to leadership and delivery,” he said.

“I’m joining Caddick at a pivotal time as the business continues to grow, and I’m excited to be part of that progress and to help shape what Caddick can become in the East Midlands.

“My focus is on building strong teams, creating an environment where people are supported, challenged and able to perform at their best. I’m also an advocate for creating opportunities within the industry; by attracting great talent and bringing out the best in our people, we can drive the continued success of Caddick Construction.”

Paul Dodsworth, Group Managing Director at Caddick Construction Group, added: “Paul’s appointment is an important step in our continued regional growth strategy. He brings a wealth of experience, a strong track record of delivering complex projects and a people-focused approach that closely aligns with our values at Caddick.

“As we build on the strong foundations established in the Midlands, expanding into the East Midlands is a significant opportunity for us. With Paul leading the region, we are well positioned to grow, strengthen our client relationships and continue building high-performing teams that will support our long-term ambitions.”
