Superdrug launches largest UK store at Merry Hill

Beauty retailer Superdrug has relaunched at Redical’s super-regional Brierley Hill shopping complex, part of plans to open 30 new stores across the UK.

Now spanning 12,800 sq ft, the transformed Merry Hill store will create 15 new permanent roles, alongside 10 seasonal positions over the Christmas period, Superdrug says.

Earlier this year, Superdrug took the wraps off its “Beauty Playground” concept store with a soft launch in the former HMV next door to its existing outlet.

The opening comes two months after parent and baby retailer Ebabek also took a 10,000 sq ft presence at Merry Hill, while US-based retailer Bath & Body Works also signed on the dotted line for an expanded presence earlier in September.

“The full reopening of Superdrug in its new, significantly expanded format marks an important milestone for Merry Hill, reinforcing our position as a leading destination for health, beauty and wellness,” said Alistair Winning, leasing manager for Redical.

“As Merry Hill continues to evolve, the unveiling of the UK’s largest Superdrug store demonstrates our commitment to delivering an increasingly compelling offer for visitors, and the growing appeal of the destination for best-in-class retailers.”

The 1.4m sq ft complex, around two miles from Dudley, was snapped up by Redical in March in a deal estimated to be worth around £280m.
