City council eyes £3m sell-off for Eastside shed
A warehouse near HS2’s under-development Curzon Street station has been put on the market by Birmingham City Council, part of the latest phase of a local authority programme of asset sales.
The 30,000 sq ft industrial and warehouse on Lawley Middleway was once the home of coach and minibus firm AFJ Travel, and includes a warehouse, workshop accommodation, offices, loading access, a secure yard and parking areas.
Birmingham-based commercial property agency Shepherd Commercial has been appointed to market the property, which is available for purchase with offers in the region of £3m, as well as on a leasehold basis.
Kaine Arkinson, managing director of Shepherd Commercial, said: “Birmingham’s industrial market continues to face a shortage of practical and well-located space for businesses that need access to the regional road network and city centre.
“2 Lawley Middleway is a rare opportunity because it combines scale, yard space, loading access and direct Middleway frontage in a location where supply is limited and demand remains resilient.”
The city council has sold off more than 1,000 plots of land since effectively declaring itself bankrupt in 2023, sales which have realised an estimated £250m for council coffers over the past three years.
The authority said it had exited the so-called Section 114 process in February this year, after delivering a balanced budget for the 2026/27 financial year.
Among the largest individual sales completed by the authority was the Bordesley Green karting track, which was snapped up by Birmingham City FC owners Knighthead Capital for almost £50m in 2024, and has been earmarked to become the site of the club’s planned Powerhouse Stadium.
