Nottingham Forest launches three-storey club shop plans
Nottingham Forest has lodged proposals for a ‘destination’ retail store on Radcliffe Road, the latest plans to redevelop the area around the City Ground.
A former petrol station on the corner of Pavilion Road in West Bridgford is the intended site for the shop, around 500ft from the main stadium.
The club says the store will create a ‘gateway’ for supporters to the wider stadium site on match days, an area that is set to be significantly boosted under wider redevelopment plans still under consideration by Rushcliffe District Council.
“The vision is to create a building that is recognisably Nottingham Forest, while being carefully considered as part of its local context,” said a planning statement submitted with the scheme.
“It will provide modern retail accommodation over two storeys, with one storey of ancillary office and back of house storage on the third storey, allowing the club to showcase its brand, merchandise and heritage in a purpose-built environment.”
The proposals would support around 65 jobs, according to Nottingham Forest, part of plans to run a seven-day-a-week retail operation from the site, if approved.
Rushcliffe’s planning in-tray is groaning under the weight of applications from Nottingham Forest alone – the latest scheme is one of three planning applications actively under consideration relating to the City Ground, around six months after major redevelopment proposals were put forward.
Under two applications lodged in December, the capacity at the City Ground would increase to around 52,000 through a full redevelopment of three sides of the stadium.
Two other applications, for the demolition of five houses to make way for an expanded stadium footprint, were approved last month.
Designs for the proposals have been provided by F3 Architects, with IBA Planning providing planning consultancy services. The project team includes Foxton Construction, Willis Hazell, Geo Dyne, Front Five, Arup, and OFR.
Gleeds are the lead project manager and cost consultants for the project.
