Proposed route for 90-mile hydrogen pipeline is unveiled
A public consultation on plans to build a ‘nationally important’ gas connection between the East Midlands and the Humber estuary has been launched this week.
Utilities firm Cadent unveiled its plans for the H2East Pipeline project in January, a collaboration between National Gas, Northern Gas Networks and Cadent to connect planned hydrogen production and storage with industrial users in the East Midlands.
The hydrogen pipeline would enable manufacturers of steel, chemicals, bricks and food to switch from natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen; supporting industrial decarbonisation. Access to a hydrogen supply is expected to help safeguard local jobs and attract inward investment.
Now, the firm has launched a call for public feedback on its proposals, which include an interactive route map, which will need to be signed off at government level as part of the consent process for nationally significant infrastructure projects.
A number of in-person events will compliment an online webinar, with the firm describing the consultation – which opened on Monday, 3 March – as a chance to shape the detail of the proposals.
The in person events will take place at the following locations:
