VIDEO | How technology is reducing construction waste
Embracing digital platforms allows the industry to easily and quickly connect companies with surplus soil with others who need it. MukAway is a construction tech start-up that does just that.
Place journalist Julia Hatmaker spoke with founder Fraser Linaker and business development and marketing director Ian Cheveau to find out more.
Linaker came up with the idea for MukAway to resolve a problem he continually encountered during his 25 years of experience working for housebuilders – including Taylor Wimpey, Duchy Homes, and David Wilson Homes.
This problem was what to do with surplus material. Sending it to landfill presented an easy solution, but was not the most environmentally friendly. With a looming landfill tax increase it also has become less financially appealing.
The construction industry is notoriously slow to adopt new technology, but MukAway has already brought more than 50 clients on board, including Barratt Homes, Salboy, Bellway, and Vistry Group.
Wain Homes is also a client, with the video discussion filmed on the housebuilder’s Latune Gardens development in Lathom.
Linaker and Cheveau spoke with Hatmaker about how they have cut through the industry’s reluctance to embrace change.
