Rolls-Royce lodges plan to upgrade Derby factory
Proposals to upgrade manufacturing facilities at an East Midlands aerospace and defence firm will be assessed by city planners this month.
Last year, Rolls Royce launched plans to build a two-storey building at its Sinfin A plant on Victory Road in Derby. Now, following an environmental impact assessment in October, the firm has now applied for full permission for the scheme.
Rolls Royce says the 32,291 sq ft manufacturing services facility will serve as a round-the-clock base for servicing, maintenance and workshop teams, replacing an “outdated” existing building with upgraded facilities.
If approved by Derby City Council, the company says the new building will provide a better working environment for staff and improve productivity at the 320-acre Sinfin Campus, which employs around 12,000 people in the city.
An existing parts storage building is currently being demolished to make way for the new building, according to documents filed with the application this week.
Birmingham-based Aecom have provided planning consultancy on behalf of Mclaughlin and Harvey, with Frank Shaw Architects creating designs for the scheme.
Construction work on the project is expected to last around 10 months, with access during the construction phase proposed via internal roads within the campus.
