Spades in for phase two of ARK at Markham Vale

Origin has started work on the final stage of its £30m ARK industrial and logistics scheme in Derbyshire, set to deliver a further 54,000 sq ft of industrial and logistics space.

The firm, a joint venture between HBD and Feldberg Capital, reached practical completion on the first phase of the ARK scheme in October, signing-off on 107,000sq ft of ESG-compliant I&L space.

Work is expected to be completed on the final phase of development this year, a single 54,000 sq ft unit, ready for occupation in the autumn.

Vivienne Clements, executive director at HBD, said: “Markham Vale is one of the region’s most successful I&L locations, which is reflected in demand from potential occupiers seeking high-quality, sustainable space.

“We’re pleased to see our vision for ARK almost complete, with HBC Construction now on site delivering the final unit.”

The 200-acre Markham Vale development sits on the site of the former Markham Colliery, which closed down in 1993.

Work began to regenerate the site in 2006, following a compulsory purchase order from Derbyshire County Council and around £88m of funding intended to pump prime the site, which is now home to over 70 businesses.

Occupiers include Smurfit Kappa and Bilstein.

Jamie Acheson, Managing Director of Feldberg Capital, said: “ARK fits squarely within Origin’s investment strategy, combining a proven location with strong occupier demand and high-quality specification. Sustainability was a key priority for ARK, as with all Origin projects, delivering BREEAM Excellent space to support businesses in meeting their ESG objectives.”

Origin was launched to own and develop next-generation, ESG-compliant industrial and logistics assets in the UK’s mid-box market, and recently began work on the second phase of its SPARK development in Walsall.

The company aims to deliver £1bn of high-quality I&L schemes over the next five to seven years.

The agents for ARK are JLL and CPP.
