Up to 300 homes planned for Solihull farmland

Land promoter Richborough has submitted plans for a canal-side residential scheme on the edge of Knowle, which could include up to 150 affordable homes.

Outline proposals put forward to Solihull Council this week for the 37-acre site off Kenilworth Road, around half a kilometre from the centre of the village, include up to 300 houses alongside a community park and car park, as well as walking and cycling routes.

A month-long public consultation on the plans was held earlier this year, generating more than 700 responses.

Katie Saunders, Regional Manager at Richborough, said: “Our design-led proposals respond positively to Knowle’s distinctive character, combining this with modern, sustainable development principles.

The scheme will deliver a mix of much-needed new homes in a highly sustainable location, with convenient access to local shops, services, and public transport connections.

“We look forward to working closely with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and statutory consultees as the application progresses, with the aim of ultimately bringing the site to market for delivery by a highquality development partner.”

Documents submitted with the proposals by the promoter say the scheme would make a “large contribution” to meeting the borough’s affordable housing needs, and help to address a housing land supply shortfall estimated to be in excess of 3,000 homes over the next five years.

David Green, of Delta Planning, who supported both the landowners and Richborough in preparing the planning application, added: “We are delighted to have been part of the team bringing this highly sustainable site forward to planning submission. If planning is forthcoming the proposals would provide a valuable contribution to both the Borough’s
housing needs and local community infrastructure.”
