Vistry starts on next phase of Coventry’s expansion

Work has now begun on more than 600 homes, as the next phase of the city’s key Eastern Green development gets under way.

Coventry’s 435-acre urban extension, being built to the west of the city, will eventually deliver at least 2250 homes, 37-acres of employment land, a new major district centre, and a primary school when work is completed – anticipated to be around 2039.

Housebuilder Vistry now says it’s ready to crack on with phases four and five of the scheme, which will see 456 homes constructed to be sold on the open market. A further 152 homes are being built in partnership with social housing group Citizen.

“We have an ambitious development programme to build homes to meet the needs of our region and we also work with our partners, including Vistry, to make a positive difference to our customers and communities,” said Nick Byrne, executive director of development at Citizen.

“We’re looking forward to seeing work at Eastern Green in Coventry continue building on our existing presence in the area.”

A total of 247 homes were built by Vistry during the first phase of the scheme, which received outline planning permission for 2,400 homes in 2020. Eastern Green is the largest of six key investment sites in the Coventry City Council area.

A new junction with the A45 Birmingham Road is also being constructed as part of the wider development.

Andy Peters, managing director for Vistry South West Midlands, added: “Continuing our joint venture with Citizen at Eastern Green is a fantastic example of our long-term partnership strategy in action.

“Together, we’re delivering more than 800 new homes across three phases, half of which are affordable, showcasing the strengths of Vistry Group and our commitment to building communities that last.”
