Keon starts construction on Heath Town apartments
The first bricks have been laid on a residential development at a former pub in Wolverhampton, part of a wider scheme of regeneration work.
Staffordshire house builder Keon Homes started construction on a £28m scheme to build 32 apartments, around two months after ground works got under way on the Wednesfield Road site.
Planning permission for the scheme at the former Duke of York pub, which has been closed for more than a decade, was granted in 2025.
Phil Davey, head of pre-construction at Keon Homes, said: “We have worked extremely closely with the planning team at City of Wolverhampton Council to agree a high-quality scheme on a very prominent site.
“To see work begin is a real milestone moment and the start of bringing the vision to reality for individuals and families across the city.
“The development will also benefit from heating and hot water delivered via the Heath Town district heating network, which is currently being upgraded following significant investment.”

The project will form part of the second phase of the area’s regeneration, a plan which will see 120 homes built across five derelict sites in the area.
The first phase of the project saw 40 new council houses built across sites on Hobgate Road and Tithe Croft, following a demolition programme which saw vacant buildings knocked down to make way for the scheme,.
City of Wolverhampton Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing and Assets, Councillor Steve Evans, added his support: “One of our key priorities is to increase the number of good homes in well-connected neighbourhoods across the city.
“The regeneration of Heath Town is helping achieve that and deliver improvements and new homes the residents can be proud of – it is heartening to see how it is changing the lives of families for the better.
“This second wave of new homes will build on that and continue our transformation of the Heath Town estate, which is being built on the strong sense of community.”
Other works completed as part of the Heath Town redevelopment include the demolition of walkways and garages in the Hobgate Road area of the estate and the refurbishment of the ground and lower ground floors of Ling House to provide office, meeting and activity space for the Hope Family Centre.
