Richborough submits plan for 1,000 new homes in Herefordshire
Outline plans to build up to 1,000 new homes alongside a new school and local centre in Leominster have been submitted to Herefordshire County Council.
If approved, the scheme put forward by land promoter Richborough would be built on a parcel of land between the A44 Barons Cross Road, and the B4361 Hereford Road, and would form part of a proposed 1,600 home Leominster urban expansion.
The site is included in the Herefordshire Local Plan, adopted in 2015, which will see more than 2,500 new houses built in Leominster in total before the policy expires in 2031.
“I’m excited to have submitted this application following many years of land promotion work by our internal team and external multi-disciplinary consultants led by Pegasus,” said Joe Jones, Regional Director at Richborough.
“This will be a well-connected and highly sustainable, landscape-led new neighbourhood that will provide much needed new homes and facilities for people at every stage of life.
“We’re looking forward to working closely with Herefordshire Council and consultees as the application progresses and hope to ultimately to bringing the site to market for a high-quality development partner.”
The scheme also includes a new “tree-lined” link road set to run through the site, connecting Hereford Road and Baron’s Cross Road, while the project is also set to include cycle and pedestrian routes, as well as a network of open green spaces, woodlands and wildflower meadows, the applicant says.
Charlotte Lewis, Group Design Director at Richborough, added: “Our proposals have very much been shaped by the invaluable feedback we have received from local communities, stakeholders and independent design review.
“Our outline masterplan proposes residential neighbourhoods that will have identity and character, set within an outstanding new landscaped parkland. A hub of community facilities will establish a central focus for the development, supported by a network of well-connected streets and active travel routes to encourage healthy lifestyles.”
