New vision for central Birmingham to be unveiled at MIPIM
The West Midlands’ £20bn portfolio of investment opportunities will be led by chief executives from two of the region’s fastest-growing cities, organisers have announced.
The four-day MIPIM event, set to be held in Cannes during March, will bring together over 20,000 international property professionals, investors, and city representatives from more than 90 countries to shape the future of urban development.
Joanne Roney CBE, managing director at Birmingham City Council and Tim Johnson, chief executive at City of Wolverhampton Council, will head up a delegation of civic and business decision-makers from the West Midlands to showcase what it says are some of Europe’s largest and best-connected investment opportunities in the country.
A long-awaited new prospectus for the centre of Birmingham will be unveiled as part of the West Midlands programme, set to reveal an updated vision for some of the city’s most high profile and in-demand development land.
Announcing its West Midlands at MIPIM programme for the week, the West Midlands Growth Company says the region’s delegation will also include senior leaders from across the real estate and built environment sector, set to shine the light on a number of recent examples including:
- Wolverhampton’s
Smithgate regeneration scheme, which recently secured an £83m funding boost - Solihull’s Mell Square, which received planning approval last week
- Coventry’s flagship scheme – City Centre South, where work is now underway
- And the wave of regeneration taking place across Digbeth, home to Steven Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios and BBC Birmingham’s new headquarters, as it transforms into a thriving creative ecosystem.

On Monday, the delegation will unveil its refreshed vision for Birmingham’s Central Heart district.
The long-awaited
Tuesday’s programme includes a roundtable focusing on how the market can deliver against the government’s ambitious housing targets, in conjunction with Lovell and bringing together stakeholders from Mayoral Combined Authorities in the East and West Midlands. The West Midlands will also participate in a panel discussion on the emerging role of urban innovation hubs and will be represented at this year’s UK Cities Dinner.
On Wednesday, programme highlights include a roundtable on the future of funding models for regeneration schemes, co-hosted with CBRE and a West Midlands at MIPIM 2026 Investment event.
