Cameron unveils hometown proposals
Up to 450 homes and community facilities could be developed across 50 acres in Staffordshire village Chasetown.
Cameron Homes, which is headquartered in Chasetown, has revealed initial visuals of its plans for land off Highfields Road.
A public consultation process has been launched as the housebuilder spells out its intentions for a development featuring family and affordable housing over 31 aces of the site’s total footprint.
The site sits within the remit of Lichfield District Council.
Bounded by Pavior’s Road, Highfields Road and the M6 Toll close to Chasewater Country Park, the site is currently inaccessible to the public and considered ‘grey belt’ under the government’s new national planning policy.
Cameron Homes, a firm with 30 years experience, said that opening the site up would allow new public open space, children’s play areas, significant wildlife habitats and further biodiversity enhancements, along with highways improvements and new pedestrian and cycle linkages joining up with local areas.
Pegasus is working with the firm as masterplanner and lead on consultation.
Kate Tait, group strategic land and planning director for Cameron Homes, said: “This grey belt site has the potential to deliver significant investment, community facilities, vibrancy, and much-needed family and affordable housing to Chasetown.
“Having been based in this village for over 30 years, Cameron Homes, Tara Group and the Noel Sweeney Foundation are already hugely invested in this community and the wider Burntwood parish. Over the past four years, we have donated £320,000 to community projects in the immediate area, with a focus on tackling homelessness and young people most in need of support.”
Chasetown was historically a mining community, but the last mine shut down in 1959 – the time is now right, said Tait for development of a large site that “presents a compelling opportunity to deliver energy-efficient premium homes, while also providing new amenity space, Highways improvements and extensive green infrastructure”.
Established in 1994, Cameron Homes is currently delivering more than 200 homes across 11 live developments and has a pipeline of future sites expected to deliver 1,000 new homes.
