Capital&Centric signs off on Goods Yard pedestrian scheme
A footpath and cycle route connecting a 174-home regeneration development in Stoke on Trent with the city’s main railway station has now been completed.
Capital&Centric, developers behind the residential-led Good Yard development in Shelton, say the newly-finished active travel improvements will cut journey times to the station from the former rail warehouse around 500 ft away by over 70%.
The £60m mixed-use scheme, which includes 30,000 sq ft of workspace, independent bars, eateries, coffee shops and stores, launched in summer and has already welcomed more than a hundred residents.
The Glebe Street site was once home to a 19th century bonded warehouse, built to transfer goods between the Trent & Mersey canal and the railway line. Work on regenerating the site got underway in 2022.
Last month, global property advisor Avison Young announced it was moving its Stoke-based Customer Service Centre into the 10,000 sq ft pavilion building on the Goods Yard site, with Panko & Sushi set to open its doors in one of the commercial units before the end of the year.
Tom Wilmot, joint managing director at Capital&Centric, said: “The new pedestrian and cycle route has completely transformed people’s arrival experience in Stoke-on-Trent, replacing a typical pavement walk for something that feels part of the neighbourhood from the moment they arrive in the city.
“It perfectly captures the vision behind Goods Yard – crafting a place which connects seamlessly with Stoke and its transport links.”
