GALLERY: Final designs revealed for £46m Edgbaston cricket hotel
Fresh images have been released showing how a 146-bedroom hotel at an iconic Birmingham sporting venue will look once completed in 12 months time.
The latest phase of redevelopment at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium will see a 3,200 stand built to replace the now-demolished Raglan and Priory Stands, with the Radisson Red hotel included in the plans.
The new accommodation will include a rooftop bar and terrace named Spin, pitch-view rooms with balconies, and rooms that can be converted into hospitality boxes with external terraces during high-profile cricket fixtures.
The latest CGI images show how the interior designs for the accommodation will look, adding what Radisson RED describes as their signature finish to the scheme.
The proposals were backed by Birmingham City Council’s planning department in February, with a £17.3m loan from West Midlands Combined Authority supporting the scheme.
The project is expected to be completed by July 2027, in time for the men’s Ashes series, with the third test set to be hosted in Birmingham.
“The reveal of these designs is a landmark moment in this project as we start to bring to life what has been discussed for several years. This is the start of a really exciting chapter for Edgbaston and Warwickshire,” said Adam Lowe, commercial director at Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
“The Masterplan development has been 15-years in the making, with phase one beginning in 2011 delivering the start of Edgbaston Stadium’s modernisation.
“Phase three sees us complete the full destination offer – a world-class sporting venue, a globally-recognised hotel, a premium hospitality offering with ‘Spin’, award-winning residential apartments, and an abundance of commercial opportunities for local, regional and national businesses.
“To be launching in time for the Ashes next year will be a momentous occasion for the club, putting us and Birmingham right at the forefront of the world’s sporting stage.”
