Nottingham Forest stadium expansion plans submitted
Premier League football club Nottingham Forest says it has received “overwhelming” public support for plans to increase capacity at it’s City Ground home to over 50,000.
The club says it has submitted proposals to redevelop its historic home on the banks of the River Trent today, adding that the new scheme will form an “integral part of the economic growth of the city and the wider region”.
At the end of last year, the club launched a series of consultations on the scheme, having received permission from Rushcliffe council to go-ahead with a smaller expansion to around 35,000 seats earlier in the year.
The new proposals have not yet been validated on Rushcliffe council’s planning portal – but are expected to see capacity rise to around 52,000.
The stadium has been earmarked as a potential host venue for the Women’s World Cup in 2035, with a UK bid for the tournament currently under way. Birmingham venues Villa Park and a proposed new Sports Quarter stadium in Bordesley Green are also included in the bid.
“Our home for over 120 years will see a significant investment made by our owner, Evangelos Marinakis, to deliver a sustainable and iconic design which increases the stadium’s capacity to over 50,000,” said a spokesperson.
“The club is grateful for the positive public engagement and overwhelming support shown for our proposals ahead of the planning submission. We would also like to thank to our key partners, Gleeds, KSS Design Group, Buro Happold, and Savills for their support to date.
“We look forward to working with the Mayor of the East Midlands, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as our supporters and the wider community, to achieve a successful outcome in the near future.”
