Developer returns with 1,400 home Shrewsbury extension
Re-worked proposals to build more than a thousand homes on the outskirts of Shrewsbury will be put back to the public next week, as developer CEP refines plans for the scheme.
A 98-acre site between Mytton Oak Road and Hanwood Road had been earmarked in Shropshire’s local plan as a potential location for up to 1,400 homes, with around 50 acres also set aside for employment uses.
Commercial Estates Projects is now set to showcase improved proposals for the site on the back of a consultation held in July 2025, with a planning application expected to be lodged with Shropshire Council later this year.
The firm says it’s working with a housebuilder on a potential first phase of the scheme, with details set to be included in a hybrid proposal for the wider site.
A letter sent to residents ahead of the consultation said the development provided the “opportunity to fund and deliver new infrastructure” for the west of Shrewsbury, including roads, bus services, education, healthcare provision, leisure and recreation opportunities, and improvements to the existing highway network.
Matt Rhodes, senior planning manager said: “Following the consultation event we held last year, we have been reviewing the feedback and liaising with Shropshire Council to discuss key elements including education, sports and recreation and design and are now holding a feedback consultation via the website and at a drop in event.
“This will share more information about the updates including the additional space for education, the reconfiguration of the local centre and the new community facilities it can provide, specific proposals for allotments and details of the green spaces, play areas and playing pitches and changing space for example.”
The full consultation will be made available online from 10 July, and an in-person event will also be held on Tuesday, 14 July at Bowbrook Primary School.
