Latimer picks Winvic for major Digbeth residential
The development arm of Clarion Housing Group has signed the contractor to deliver a £112m mixed-tenure housing development in central Birmingham.
Latimer has also signed a contract with PJ Careys for the demolition of the current building, which is due to start next month. The development area is bounded by Clyde Street and High Street.
There will be 481 homes on a 1.3-acre site, alongside commercial and public realm improvements. Construction is due to start in October, subject to final pre-start conditions being agreed.
Richard Cook, chief development officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “Signing the contract with Winvic is a major step forward for this scheme and allows us to move confidently towards delivery. Digbeth is an area with a strong identity and huge potential, and this development will bring forward hundreds of much-needed new homes, with affordability at its core.”
The mixed housing offer includes 141 units for social rent and 147 for shared ownership, alongside 193 homes for private sale. There will be nearly 10,000 sq ft of commercial space.
Mark Jones, managing director of multi-room at Winvic Construction, said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Latimer to deliver this exciting new development in the heart of Digbeth, bringing our extensive experience in delivering complex, high-quality residential schemes in Birmingham.”
The project is part of Latimer’s strategy to focus on well-connected urban locations, while “maximising the delivery of genuinely affordable housing to meet local need.”
