‘Exciting moment’ as £4.2m Talbot Park opens to public
The regeneration of Kidderminster’s town centre continues to gather pace, as councillors cut the ribbon on green space connecting Worcester Street with Bromsgrove Street.
Wyre Forest council says Talbot Park is a cornerstone of it’s 2040 vision, a £45m strategy to transform the Worcestershire town into a “purposeful, forward-thinking” town centre, with the park set designed to create a footpath link to the 150-home Lion Fields housing development site.
Three former retail units were demolished as part of the project, including the town’s former Woolworths department store, which has sat empty for the past decade.
Telford-based contractor McPhillips was appointed as main contractor for the development in 2024, before starting work in September. The project team also included Arcadis, ARES and McBains.
“It’s been a real privilege to work on this connectivity scheme that will make such a lasting difference to Kidderminster town centre. Our team put a lot of care and effort into delivering a space that the local community can be proud of, and seeing Talbot Park open to the public makes it all worthwhile,” said director, Stuart MacKenzie.

“Projects like this don’t happen without great teamwork, and we’re proud to have worked alongside Wyre Forest District Council, Arcadis, ARES and McBains to bring this vision to life.
“The social value delivered through this project has been really important to us – from supporting local employment to inviting Sutton Park Primary School children to plant daffodil bulbs – and that’s something we’re just as proud of as the finished park. We hope residents and visitors enjoy this fantastic new green space for many years to come.”
The park was officially opened by Cllr Marcus Hart, the leader of Wyre Forest District Council, who described it as a “proud and exciting” moment for the town.
Other projects already completed as part of Kidderminster’s ongoing regeneration include the piano building, a former Brintons carpet factory which has now been converted into around 30,000 sq ft of new office space.
Work is expected to begin on Lion Fields later this year.
“Talbot Park is a shining example of our commitment to revitalising the town centre, creating an attractive, accessible space that will inspire further investment, encourage visitors, and support local businesses,” said Cllr Hart.
“It’s a place where the community can come together and where the future of the town centre Kidderminster feels more exciting than ever.”
