Hereford transport hub on track for October opening
The main structure of a £10m building set to link up bus, rail and cycling routes at the county town’s railway station is now complete, according to Herefordshire Council.
Work on the transport hub got under way last year, with Telford building firm McPhillips appointed to the scheme in April.
The project is part of the £20.5 million Improving Transport in Hereford programme, funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
When complete, the hub will include an enclosed waiting area, covered cycle parking, better bus facilities, pedestrian areas, green space and a new cafe.
Work on the scheme has now reached a major milestone, with the project now around 75 per cent complete and on track for an end-of-October opening.

“We’re well on our way to the completion of this ambitious project which will transform the way people move around Hereford,” said Andrew Dunham, contracts director for McPhillips.
“As contractors, it’s always exciting when developments reach a point when they resemble the architect’s vision and with the central hub structure now in place, we’ve reached that milestone.
“Once completed this development will provide modern bus facilities for commuters, improved parking, covered cycle storage and other facilities which will encourage a shift towards more sustainable travel options.
“It represents significant investment in the city and we’re pleased the build remains on track for an Autumn completion.”
According to contractors and the county council, the central hub structure is now fully in place and external cladding is complete.
The bus area is expected to be ready for rail replacement services during July.
Councillor Philip Price, Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said people can now “clearly see the scale and quality” of what is being delivered.
“The central hub structure is now in place, and work is continuing inside and around the site so it will be ready for opening later this year,” he said.
“The transport hub will create a modern, accessible and attractive gateway to Hereford.
“We remain on track for an end-of-October opening.”
