Indurent tees up Tamworth expansion

Detailed plans for 224,000 sq ft of industrial units are tipped for the go-ahead, but officers want to see queries on highways resolved before recommending outline approval for a further 564,000 sq ft.

North Warwickshire Council’s planning and development board meets on 7 September, with industrial powerhouse Indurent’s twin application the most eyecatching item on the docket.

The proposal, in essence, is the expansion of Indurent Park, immediately south-east of Junction 10 of the M42 to the south and east. The park, established by an initial consent in 2016, is bound to the north by the A5.

As things stand, the industrial park is around 62 acres, while the expansion land would add a further 102 acres to the estate. Of that, around 40 acres are covered by the detailed consent, which covers land to the south – the outline site wraps around part of the southern edge, and the whole of the eastern side.

The detailed application seeks full permission for two new-build industrial units, of 95,764 sq ft and 128,044 sq ft. BREEAM Excellent is the target for the two units.

Thinking for the outline phase remains flexible, with six possible development areas proposed within the site parameters.

There has been little in the way of objection: Dordon Parish Council has raised several issues, but has not formally objected, while only nine letters of opposition have been noted. National Highways, however, has placed on record a holding deferral, requesting further information on modelling and traffic impact assessments.

Development that will assist in economic growth is to be afforded “significant weight,”  officers noted.

Approval is recommended for the detailed plans, and deferment while more highways information is presented for the longer-term outline aspect.
